Liberal Government Frees Ronald Reagan’s Attempted Assassin

  • John Hinckley Jr., the man who attempted to assassinate Ronald Reagan is now a free man, 35-years later.
  • Apparently, the doctors at the mental hospital that Hinckley had been staying at have said that he no longer suffers from his mental illnesses.
  • 35-years ago, when the crime was committed, Hinckley claimed he had tried to kill the president to impress actress Jodie Foster.

John Hinckley Jr. attempted to assassinate Ronald Reagan on March 30th, 1981 outside a Washington D.C. hotel. It is now 35-years later and the government is letting him out of a mental hospital. Judge Paul L. Friedman, today, granted Hinckley a full-time leave from the hospital, which will start on August 5th.

Doctors from the hospital have claimed that Hinckley, now 61-years old, is no longer suffering from the mental illness that caused him to attempt the assassination of our former president. During the original case, Hinckley was found not guilty due to insanity, claiming he committed the crime to impress actress Jodie Foster.

The doctors have been granting Hinckley leave of absences from the hospital since 2003. Originally, it started with day visits to his parent’s house in the Washington area, then it grew to three-night stretches at his parent’s house, then finally growing to be able to spend 17 days out of the month away from the hospital.

Ronald Reagan himself died in 2004 at the age of 93, so apparently, the threat of a repeated attack are no longer an issue.

Don’t get the wrong idea, Hinckley is not what you would call a “free man.” There are a large number of restrictions that he must comply to now that he will be living outside the hospital. He has to routine attend individual and group therapy sessions and he is restricted from talking to the press. He is allowed to drive, but there is a restricted distance from how far he can drive. He is also followed by the Secret Service from time to time.

Apparently, according to reports, Hinckley wants to live a busy life outside the hospital. He volunteers at a number of charities, including churches and mental hospitals. He talks often to groups that suffer from mental illnesses. He also has claimed that he wants to have a full-time job. He said, “I don’t like flipping around the TV, I want to do things.”

Let’s hope there isn’t a new actress that he wants to impress.
